Bahai temple is really an architectural marvel and creating its model will be challenging task for many including students of architecture. If one is interested, one can study the material available at various sources on internet and create ones own method of creating a model. We have suggested a method by which it would be possible for anyone to make model of Bahai Temple in short time.
This will also help to understand intricacies of the architectural design and experience the beauty of the Lotus Temple, when it takes a shape as you follow the procedure described by us. Please note that this may not be the best method to create the model and better options may be available elsewhere.
You need following components as shown in table below
Model of Bahai temple can be created by following
one by one steps using card-paper.
one by one steps using card-paper.
It is advisable to keep ready 9+1 quantity for most items.
Spare 1 can be used for you to practice cutting the shape,
pasting it to another component and master technique
so that your finished product will look professional..!!
So let us start with base of the dome.
Base of the dome :
It has nine arches and nine pillars.
You need 9 (+1) sheets of 4 arches each.
This is to create stable base. Please follow the instructions
1 Fold the arches on central line
2. And cut the oval shapes so that 4 arches are created from each paper.
You have to paste last oval from first strip over first oval of last strip.
3. Paste last oval of third strip over first oval of first strip.
Then fold the strip in middle. In this manner, you will be able to
create a circle of 9 arches as shown in figure below.
Then fold the strip in middle. In this manner, you will be able to
create a circle of 9 arches as shown in figure below.
4. You need 3 circles of 9 arches each. Please repeat above procedure
Insert one ring INSIDE another ring.
Keep third ring aside for use afterwards.
Arches of the dome
5. Take the big oval and fold it on the central line, and make
a cut slightly inside the oval as shown in picture below.
6. Start cutting the oval shape out of the sheet
7. Cut out the oval from the sheet as shown below.
8. You need to cut the oval from outside also
in order to get an arch as seen in diagram below.
9. Paste one end of the big arch at the center of one of the nine arches
from inside. Paste the other end at the center of third arch after the
arch on which you have pasted the first end as shown in the picture below.
10. Paste second arch at the center of next arch and the other end at the center
of arch after the arch where you pasted the other end of first arch.
Second arch will go above first arch.
11. When First end is to be pasted at the center of arch where
you have pasted second end of earlier arch, paste it inside the
second end by slightly opening the gap between two slings.
12. Like this paste all arches. Take care to take the arch above first arch
and below second arch when you start crossing two arches.
13. Now you have completed pasting all 9 arches cris-crossing other arches.
This will give you a fairly circular base of the dome.
Top of the dome
Now we proceed to create the dome.
For this we are going to use the strips provided in the kit.
You have 15 cm and 12.5 cm strips. Please cut 6.5 cm and 7.5 cm strips
out of these strips by cutting as shown in picture below.
`14. First take 6.5 cm (smaller) strips, cut on the lines up to dotted
line to create pasting surfaces as shown in picture below.
15. Fold the strips on lines so that width of the strip is one fourth of the
strip given to you. Also you need to create pasting surfaces
on both sides as shown below.
16. Paste inside of the folded strips so that they can provide
required strength to the dome.
17. Cut the circle from big sheet as shown in diagram and using
fevicol, paste the 6.5 cm folded strip on one of 18 lines.
18. You need to paste 6.5 cm strip appropriately as shown in picture below.
19. You have now created a circle with 9 strips pasted on
alternate lines of 18 lines which will look as picture below.
20. The other end of each strip is to be pasted on the TOP of big
arch one by one. You need lot of patience as it takes some time
for the fevicol to dry and joint getting secured.
21. Picture below shows how the other end is to be pasted to the top of the arch.
22. Now you will be able to see a dome like structure
made of material provided to you.
23. Top of view of your dome will be as shown in this picture.
24. But this dome needs to be enforced to bear load of inner petals.
25. Cut the ends of 7.5 cm strips as below and paste them to prepare second set of pillars.
26. Paste one end of the strip to another circle exactly one of the 18 lines.
27. You will have another circle with 9 strips as shown in picture below.
28. The other end of strip is to be pasted where two big
arches cross each other, as shown in picture below. The cut ends
of strips are to be appropriately separated and pasted on both arches.
29. Note that longer strip is overlapping on the smaller strip.
Second small circle will finally fit exactly on the first small circle.
30. Picture below shows three strips pasted on three joints of big arches.
31. Top view after pasting all 9 strips
32. Now you need to cut the 12.5 cm strips and paste one end
on top circle between two strips already pasted. The other end
is to be pasted inside the ends of two big arches pasted in the
center of small arch.
33. Top view after pasting all strips.
34. Please note that both circles are exactly above one another, and your dome is sturdy.
Petals
35. Now we need to create inner petals, outer petals and projecting petals.
Please use the material provided as shown below.
Projecting petals
36. We start with most complicated task, i.e. the projecting petal.
Please note that it is to be created in three steps so that we give
adequate time for the surfaces to fix appropriately. First step is to
cut two sides of the projecting petals from the card sheet.
Take the sheet shown in diagram below.
37. Cut out two sides of the projecting petal as seen in picture below.
38. Paste the pasting surfaces so that we have two sides of petal as seen below.
39. We are going to fold this in center so that we get appropriate
shape of the projecting petal having two sides on which different
lines are seen. However for the time being we need to allow them to dry.
Outer petals
40. Now we work on outer petal. Please use
cards having following diagram.
41. Cut on the dashed line as shown in the picture below.
Inner Petals
42. Now take the inner petals.
42. Cut on the dashed line of left hand part of the petal.
43. Cut on the dashed line slightly away from
the top of the right side of the petal.
43. Cut the bottom part exactly on the dashed line
so that all petals are of same height.
44. Now create pasting surface by making
small cuts from the edge to perforation
45. Now cut the top part of left side of petal so that larger part of
paper is available for pasting the tip portion securely.
46. This is necessary so that the tip does not separate/
split due to force from both side petals.
47. Now start folding the pasting part on perforation
48. This will ensure perfect round shape for the edge of the petal
which is to be pasted to the left part of the petal
49. Note that after folding nicely, you see one side of the petal.
Basement of the Lotus Temple
50. Now take two sheets on which outer ponds are printed,
cut edges of one sheet so that by overlapping it on another
you see nine ponds surrounding central part.
This is going to be base of the model.
Floor of the lotus temple
51. Use the sheet with sitting arrangement printed in the center
for top portion of the model.
52. You will find that some strips are short and some are long.
Using the cut our portions, make length of all strips equal so that
they can be pasted over the lower strips between ponds.
52. Using the circle for reference, you have to paste the pillars on basement of the lotus temple
appropriately so that the floor having sitting arrangement is exactly in the center of the dome.
53. Using same circle for reference, mark the points for pillars on the lower sheet.
Making pillars
54. You need to create pillars from the 4 cm strips and paste them
in such a manner that the final height of the pillar is 3 cm and it has
shape as under for making it sturdy.
